A real winter getaway only 2 hours from Toronto.
Winter is a magical time at Harmony Outdoor Inn. White snow, woodland trails and sparkling icicles create a magical feeling of true winter beauty on our sixteen acres of heaven. Traditionally, winter is our quiet time here when we are home and not out guiding our kayaking trips. Last winter we had a group of friends up for a weekend of winter outdoor fun. We went ice skating on our rink, snowshoed through the forest and tried fat biking for the first time. We ended our day with decadent, candlelight meals around our harvest table and warming cocktails, conversation and wine by the fire in the evenings. The experience of sharing this space with friends was such a cool and memorable weekend, that we decided this season to create the whole experience for other groups of friends to enjoy.
Your arrival on Friday begins with an evening of ice-skating under the stars, with a blazing campfire at our waterfront, or a guided snowshoe hike through our woods. It won’t be too long, just a little teaser to get you into the winter mood for your weekend. You’ll come inside to a light dinner created by your chef for the weekend Laurie Tester. She’s creating a fondue of emmentaler and gruyere cheese accompanied by tart apples, mini potatoes, crusty bread, sausage and other delights for you. It will be accompanied by a barman’s cocktail that James is already working on 😉
Saturday morning, Laurie has a hearty breakfast planned for you. You can check out the entire menu with options below. After a hearty breakfast, the day is yours to choose your activities. We can go on a guided snowshoe hike in Killbear Provincial Park a fat bike tour along the shores of Georgian Bay, Ice Fishing on Georgian bay or an inland lake or go cross-country skiing on the over 30 kms of groomed trails at Georgian Nordic ski club. You’ll decide as a group what you’d like your activity for the day to be and we will arrange it and guide it for you.
Saturday lunch will consist of a hot and hearty packed picnic lunch to be enjoyed on the excursion. Just because we are off the beaten path doesn’t mean we leave the decadence at home.
When we return to Harmony on Saturday, we will fire up our private wood-burning sauna for your group. Splash some water with essential oils over the hot rocks and relax in the eucalyptus and cedarwood steam after an active day outside. Take your time after your sauna getting ready for your five-course candlelight dinner beginning with appetizers and a special cocktail created by James in our great room. We suggest you make this evening kind of a dress-up affair to make it even more special. You’ll enjoy your dessert back in the great room by the fire for an evening of conversation or dancing or games, whatever your group feels like, the entire place is yours to enjoy.
How does Cinnamon Roll sweet potato pancakes sound for Sunday morning breakfast? It’s one of your choices that Laurie has created for you. After breakfast, we will head outdoors to enjoy either snowshoeing through the woods or ice skating on our rink. If you feel like sleeping in and enjoying another sauna or a yoga class by the fire, we can do that too. Breakfast time can be decided by your group and on how late you stay up Saturday night!
For our final act, before you hit the road, join us by the campfire for Gourmet Grilled Cheese, Hot soup and gourmet donuts all made fresh for you over the campfire, hot cider, hot chocolate, and coffee round out the meal.
So how does all of this work?
Round up three couples or six friends or family who don’t mind sharing beds. There are three rooms at Harmony, two with queen beds, one with a king. Choose which activities interest you the most and let us know. We will chat on the phone about what each excursion is and which would be best, based on the weather for that weekend. Take a look at the menu options and decide as a group what you would like Laurie to prepare for you. We provide the snowshoes, the fat bikes and cross country skis as well as all park and trail passes. You need to bring your own ice skates for the weekend and all of your appropriate winter clothing. James and Dympna are your hosts and guides for the weekend. Laurie is your personal chef.
